Cummins is doing its part for sustainability

SAINT-LAURENT (Quebec) – Scientific community is pretty categorical about it: there is no time to lose if we want to counter the adverse effects of climate change. Initiatives must be taken by all of us, including businesses. In this sense, Cummins recently announced its desire to invest in sustainability for years to come.

Cummins is an American company that manufactures engine for heavy vehicles. It’s also the largest supplier of class 8 truck engines in the world, and Kenworth models are no exception! The company’s initiative is part of a general trend among most companies of the sector to invest in eco-friendly technologies. Indeed, Cummins has set some goals for 2030 as well as a longer-term vision for 2050. The priorities on which the company’s sustainability strategy will focus on will be:

  • Addressing climate change and air emissions
  • Using natural resources in the most sustainable way
  • Improving communities

Cummins ensures that these goals focus not only on improvements at its manufacturing facilities but also the products that come out of those facilities. Cummins CEO Tom Linebarger says the company’s product has a large environmental footprint. Therefore, Cummins must find a way to reduce it without affecting its own economic growth.

It is therefore necessary to develop technologies that are as economically viable as ecological. We applaud Cummins’ initiative and hope that the company finds the best solutions as part of its new strategy; everyone will benefit from it!

Recognition and gratitude

Recognition and gratitude

SAINT-LAURENT (Quebec) – On Tuesday, October 22, an evening was held at the Ossiano restaurant in Montreal to celebrate the contribution and collaboration of our longstanding employees.

Kenworth Montreal celebrated the 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th anniversaries of service for its loyal employees with great gratitude, as well as welcoming its longstanding employees, each of them cumulating more than 25 years of loyal service.
These anniversaries, in addition to being a proof of the stability of the team and the company, reflect a clear desire from Kenworth Montreal to retain its staff in this competitive industry. These retention efforts are orchestrated at many levels by ensuring that employees are provided with a stimulating work environment that encourages their learning and gives them social benefits.
This evening was intended to recognize all these years of mutual commitment shared by these employees who have been able to forge links over time, influence the company, enable it to achieve its objectives and contribute to shaping its history.

Altough heavy duty truck sales have slowed down lately, Kenworth prepares for a great 2020 year.

Kevin Baney, who recently got promoted general manager of the company as well as PACCAR’s vice-president, says that the rate of product development is the fastest he have seen since he’s working in the company.  Indeed, Kenworth is actively working hard to polish its expertise at different aspects:  greenhouse gas reduction, emerging powertrain technology or even the march toward autonomous.

Baney also states that massive investment are being placed in the industry to support customer needs and to develop several technologies such as advanced driver-assistance systems and alternative powertrains.

Baney also noted that several economic indicators reveal a healthy economy regarding the trucking industry:  consumer confidence, truck tonnage and construction spending.  All these economic indicators show a high score.

At the North American Commercial Vehicle Show that began last monday in Atlanta, Kenworth showcased its first zero-emissions vehicle, a hydrogen fuel cell T680, which is the outcome of close cooperation between the PACCAR subdivision and Toyota, a Japanese automotive manufacturer.  The trucks are mounted at the Renton’s plant in Washington and they are currently building the fifth one (out of a total of ten).

Kevin Baney claims that these hydrogen fuel cell trucks are already in high demand.

Is this the beginning of a new era ?  Mr. Baney reassured that despite all the efforts towards these new technologies, natural gas is still the dominant market segment and that as long as there is customers demand, Kenworth will produce to supply it.

$2.6 Million Major Renovation Now Complete

SAINT-LAURENT, Quebec – A grand celebration was held recently to mark the completion of a major $2.6 million (CAN$) remodeling and renovation project at the Kenworth Montréal dealership in Saint-Laurent, Quebec.

According to Mike Parent, Kenworth Montréal general manager, more than 200 people attended the special open house.
“Our new look dealership is not only a beautiful building, it’s very comfortable and convenient for our customers,” said Parent. “We’re right off the Trans-Canada Highway. When customers pull in for service, there is a spacious undercover truck receiving area that provides protection from inclement weather. Inside, we’ve completely re-done our drivers lounge – complete with TV, Wi-Fi, comfortable couches and chairs, plus microwaves and a relaxing area to enjoy a meal. The men’s and women’s shower facilities were remodeled to enhance the customer experience.”

The two-story, 31,000 square-foot building on three acres features large sliding doors that support the indoor showroom and Kenworth truck display.

The driver’s lounge is inside the showroom and features innovative movable walls, which allows flexibility in room configuration and increased space for the dealership’s customer events. “It’s also a wonderful workplace for our employees as our offices and conference rooms were also remodeled,” said Parent.

With 20 service bays, Kenworth Montréal is one of the larger service facilities in all of Canada, and operates 7 days a week with multiple shifts. “We’re open more hours than anyone else in Montréal, and have 40 service technicians located at two service points,” said Parent. “Uptime is vital to our customers, so our hours of service reflect our commitment to fast turnaround times for our customers.”

With the neighboring PACCAR Parts Distribution Center also remodeled during the same time frame as the dealership, parts availability and a focus on customer uptime is proving to be the winning formula in optimizing the customer experience, said Parent.

Within Kenworth Montréal’s territory, customers looking for parts and service support will find two TRP stores (Vaudreuil-Dorian and Laval), which provide parts for all makes of trucks, a Kenworth parts store (Saint-Jerome) and the Lanoraie and Saint-Laurent facilities, which offer full parts and service operations.

As a result of the dealership’s investments and efforts to help maximize customer uptime, Kenworth Montréal has achieved the prestigious Kenworth PremierCare® Gold Certified status. The dealership is located at 7500 Trans-Canada Highway in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. The phone number is 514-735-2581.
